The Key Concepts of Safety Process consists of eight principles to ensure continuous improvement in health and safety. -
Leadership: Each manager will be held accountable for safety performance within their department or area. All safety-related tasks will be assigned to an individual, with the completion of the task monitored and documented.
-
Strategic Planning: Annual performance goals will be established for every facility within the company. Progress against goals will be tracked and reported. Facility management, in conjunction with operations and safety leadership, will develop action plans and strategies to meet these goals.
-
Compliance: 100% compliance with all applicable health and safety rules and regulations is required. Management will be trained to be knowledgeable of the applicable rules and audits will be conducted to help ensure compliance.
-
Safe Practices: Each job / task will be analyzed to determine the safest method for performing them. Employees will be trained on these methods and all required protective equipment will be provided and utilized.
-
Hazard Identification: All ConAgra Foods facilities will be maintained in a safe condition, free from health and safety hazards. Periodic inspections will be conducted and documented to ensure safe conditions are sustained. All accidents, including near misses, will be reported, investigated, and corrective actions implemented. Incident investigations will be factual, not fault-finding.
-
Continuotus Skills Development: Recognizing that proper training is a tool to promote change, managers are responsible to identify, conduct and document all training related to health and safety for employees.
-
Behavioral Safety: Eliminating unsafe behavior is the key to eliminating accidents. Each ConAgra Foods facility will implement a behavior observation and feedback system designed to identify and correct unsafe behavior in a non-threatening manner to employees and reinforce and support safe behaviors.
-
Performance Tracking: Measurement is the key to understanding where losses occur and identifying corrective actions for improvement. Performance indicators will be developed and monitored. Indicators will be a combination of trailing (Recordable Incident Rates) as well as leading indicators (employee engagement, number of behavioral observations performed, etc.). Assessments will be conducted and documented to ensure compliance with local and national standards as well as ConAgra Foods internal policies and procedures.
